roller blinds

Step 1: Calculate the width of the blind you require

The first thing you'll want to measure is how much width you need it to be the roller blind you want. There is three different circumstances where you will need to measure windows: when there is clearance on both sides, when there is clearance on one side only, and when there is no clearance.

Case 1: There is enough free space on both sides of the window.

A window with free space on both sides is the easiest case. Simply measure the width of the window frame and add 10 centimetres on each side, so that the blind completely covers the window.

In other words, in this case the width of the blind will be equal to the window width plus 20 centimetres.

Case 2: On one side of the window, there is free space; on the other side, there is no free space.

In this case, we will have to measure the full width of the window and add 5 centimetres to the free side. In this way, the blind covers the window satisfactorily. without excessively misaligning the symmetry of the window.

The width of the blind shall be window width plus 5 centimetres.

Case 3: The window is wedged between walls

This case is the most complicated, and the one in which the blind will be less effective. For optimum measurement, the width of the window frame should be reduced by half a centimetre per side to prevent the resulting blind from being larger than the available space.

The result of the width of the blind will be equal to window width minus 1 centimetre.

How to measure the width when the window has a shutter box

If you have a box shutter whose casing protrudes beyond the window frameThe best thing to do is to take the width of that drawer and apply the modifications The window and roller shutter casing are shown in the above cases depending on the situation of the window and the roller shutter casing.

The roller shutter drawer it is possible that it will become an obstacleWe will see below how we can circumvent them if necessary.

Important note on the width of the blind

It is important to note that the width for the blind you provide will be the total width of the blind, including the entire backing. This means that the fabric shall be 5 centimetres lessThehe blind mechanisms occupy 2.5 centimetres. on each side.

Calculate the height of the blind we need

Step 2: Calculate the required blind height

The next step is to calculate the height of the blind, which will be necessary in order to be able to choose the size of the fabric. In this step, you need to two different circumstances to take into account.

Case 1: Wall installation

To install the blind on the wall you will need to measure the height of the window frame. It's as easy as adding ten centimetres above and ten centimetres below, so that the total height of the blind is equal to the window height plus 20 centimetres.

Case 2: Ceiling installation

There may be too many obstacles on the wallThe best way to do this is to install the blind in the ceiling. The best way to do this is to install the blind on the ceiling. To calculate the height of the blind, measure from the ceiling to the lower window frame and add 10 centimetres underneath.

Thus, the total of the blind height will be equal to the measurement from the bottom of the window to the ceiling plus 10 centimetres.

Important note on the height of the blind

When there is obstacles protruding by more than 7 centimetres There are two options for getting around them. On the one hand, the option we have seen of installing it on the ceiling. And, on the other hand, a bracket can be ordered to separate the blind from the wall. until you have overcome whatever stands in the way.
