How to measure a blind
Measuring a blind can be a bit overwhelming, but it's actually a very simple process if you take it step by step and take the right measurements. measurements as accurate as possible.
Saber how to measure a blind The right way is essential in order to get a roller shutter that is compatible with your home. There are different ways of measuring in relation to the blind and its installation. Before you start, you need to determine how you want to fit your roller shutter.
Flat and curved aluminium
Measuring a aluminium shutter flat and curved can be a big challenge for you. We advise you to use a metal measuring tape to ensure that the measurements are as accurate as possible.
Since you are only going to replace the slats, and bearing in mind that you already have the appropriate guides for aluminium shutters, you should take the measurements of the old shutters. If you do not have a shutter as such, you will take the measurements as follows:
- For the width: take the bottom to bottom measurements of the guides (at various points across the height and if there are differences you will take the smaller measurements) and subtract 8mm from that measurement.
- To the top: measure the height of the opening of your window or balcony and add 150 millimetres to this measurement (this is the piece of blind that is hidden at the top). The formula is: height of the opening + 150mm.
PVC roller blind (flat or curved)
Measuring to replace a PVC roller shutter (flat or curved) can be easier than you think. The first thing you need to use is a metal tape measure to make sure the measurements are accurate. And do the following:
- For the wide part: take the same measurement bottom to bottom of the rails (in several parts across the height and if there is a difference, take the smaller measurement) and subtract the smaller measurement from it.
- For the upper part: measure the height of your window or balcony opening and add 150 millimetres to this measurement (this is the piece of blind that is hidden at the top). It follows the same formula as the previous one: shaft height + 150mm.
Security roller shutter
To accurately measure a security roller shutter, take the width measurement of the shutter to be replaced, if you do not have the shutter, take the measurement as follows:
- Width: take the bottom-to-bottom measurement of the guides and subtract 8 mm from the measurement.
- High: take the measurement of the height of light of the window or door, and add 15 cm, which is the distance to the axis of the blind.
Wooden roller shutter
For measuring correctly a wooden roller shutter, it is advisable to use a metal measuring tape in order to have the most accurate measurements possible.
In case you have the guides, if they are in excellent condition, you do not need to change them. Take the width measurements carefully and subtract the smaller measurement. On the other hand, you can measure the height of the window opening by adding the 150 mm.
External box shutter (aluminium or pvc)
- Width: measure the existing window opening in cm from left to right, repeat this step at different heights and take the smallest size. Re-measure the window only, including the window frame.
- High: take the measurement from the floor where you want the shutter to rest to the ceiling or lintel. This measurement does not need to be exact, as when the shutter is installed the guides can be adjusted by cutting them.
