Repairing the slats of a roller shutter

The shutters are an indispensable part of our daily lives. On the one hand, they prevent too much light from entering when it is in our interest and, on the other hand, they provide us with greater privacy. Like all products, they can also suffer from faults. One of the most common is that the slats, either due to breakage or stagnation, move and this means that the blind does not move normally. It is therefore necessary to aligning the louvre blades.

What are slats and why do they get stuck?

The shutters are made up of slatswhich are those PVC or aluminium strips that fit together and form the shutter itself. It is easy to tell if we have a shutter malfunctionIf it is not, it only needs to be raised or lowered to detect that something is wrong.

Sometimes, the clogging of roller shutters are caused by the slat being loose or twisted, causing the slats to become misaligned and collide with the guides.

The only solution is dismantling the roller shutter box and assess the condition of the entire mechanism. If the slats are crooked, they must be straightened until they are perfectly aligned and, if they are broken, they must be replaced with new ones. Whatever the case, after making the changes, put everything back in place and check that the shutter works correctly.

Steps to align a blind

When it comes to aligning the slats of a roller shutterHowever, there are a few steps to be taken into account. However, it should be added that the process is very simple and does not involve any difficulty:

1. Dismantle the roller shutter box.

2. Check the slats and detect those that have moved.

3. Align the slats by lowering the blind little by little, until the slat is just above the guides and then straighten it with gentle blows. This must be done with all the slats that are out of alignment.

4. Once they are all aligned, raise and lower the blind to check that everything is working correctly.

5. The only thing left to do is to fit the box and everything is ready.

This should solve the problem. You will have to do this depending on the type of blind and assembly, you may need to do this on a regular basis. If it happens too often, it is possible that the problem is different and it is better to have a professional fix the problem definitively. At systems24h we give you the solution to your DIY problems at home.
