How to measure for blinds
If we are thinking of buying roller blindsof any kind (mat blinds, translucent blindsetc.) we always have to take into account the colour and design to match the general style of the home decoration. However, we must also consider the measurements that they must have to fit perfectly in our window.
In case you don't know how to take the measurements, we will show you how to measure for blinds in your window so you don't make mistakes.
How to measure according to the window situation
Aquí we will discuss three main cases to measure the window correctly. We will point out when the window is located in the middle of the wall, when it only has space on one side and when the window is sandwiched between two walls.
Calculating the width of the blind in a centred window
If there is space on both sides of the window, the measurement is very simple and uncomplicated.
Simply measure the width of the window frame and add 10 cm on each side so that the blind completely covers the window. This way a better aesthetics is achieved.
Free space on one side of the window only
When the window has a clearance on one side only, but not on the other side, the ideal is to measure the width of the window frame and add 5 cm on the side with more clearance. In this way, the blind will fit more closely to the measurements, but it will not feel too big for the window.
The window is wedged between two walls
If the window is fitted between 2 walls and there is no free space on either side of the window frame, the window frame is measured and 1 cm is deducted in total (0.5 cm on each side). This is done so that the blind is not larger than the space available and there are no problems with the mechanism or rubbing against the walls.
How to measure the width of a shutter box window
When calculating the width of the blind, we must always measure the desired space to be covered and then add the necessary centimetres on one side and the other to achieve an aesthetically better installation.
Therefore, if the window has a roller shutter box protruding from the window itself, this must be taken into account and the width of the roller shutter box must be taken as the width. This is because it is the protruding element.
After this, we add the necessary centimetres on both sides to cover the drawer.
Calculating the height of the blind for our window
In this case, there are two different ways of measuring depending on whether the blind will be attached to the wall or attached to the ceiling.
Wall installation
To install the blind we want on the wall, we need to use anchors that go on the surface to be able to attach the blind. To do this, we need to measure the height of the window frame and add 10 cm above and below the frame.
Ceiling installation
When there are certain obstacles protruding from the wall, such as roller shutter boxes, radiators, etc., we can install the blind to the ceiling. In order to calculate the height of the blind to be used, measure from the ceiling to the bottom of the window frame and add 10 cm to this measurement.
If you do not wish to install the blind on the ceiling, you will need brackets that allow you to move the blind away from the wall by 7 cm and install it in this way.
As you have seen, taking the measurements of the windows in order to installing a blind is very simple and not very complicated. So if you are going to buy a blind, don't take any risks and measure before you buy it.
