The roller blinds are quite well known and have a fairly simple operating system. It can be operated by means of a cord, which runs through the entire mechanism and allows the shutter to be raised and lowered.

They are used both indoors and outdoors, as well as being made from various materials such as metal, wood or PVC. The wood and metal ones correspond, above all, to a more aesthetic intention.

As we have already mentioned, blinds are manufactured and designed with different materials to increase their durability and ease of cleaning. Depending on the material, they may be heavier or lighter (an element to take into account when repairing them).

Even so, they all have the same parts, so we will comment briefly on each of them:

  • Side guides. They prevent the roller shutter from derailing while being raised or lowered.
  • Drawer. The drawer contains most of the shutter components and allows the shutter to be stored when it is rolled up.
  • Lamas. These are the elongated structures made of PVC which, when fitted together, form the roller shutter.
  • Mats. Small structures on each side of the axle whose function is to keep the axle inside the caisson.
  • Pulley. It is attached to the end cap and helps to catch the tape when the blind is raised. It has to contain the same width of the belt.
  • Axis. It is part of the box and allows the connection between the first slat by means of the tie rods and the subsequent rolling up of the blind.
  • Tape. An essential element that helps the roller shutter to move and which often breaks down, but is fairly easy to replace.
  • Tape guide. Ensure that the belt is correctly positioned from the pick-up to the pulley.
  • Dustpan. Thanks to the belt tensioning mechanism, the roller shutter can be raised and lowered.
  • Bumpers. These are small additions that have to be inside the roller shutter system to avoid excessive retraction of the roller shutters.

Parts of a classic roller shutter

They are very similar to PVC roller shutters, except for some components and details. Some parts are the same, but others are completely different, although the operation is ultimately the same.

Therefore, both the mechanism and the parts correspond to a PVC roller shutter, often changing only the slat material.
